Update: Photos from this year's festival!
The hottest event on the Coffs Coast calendar: the annual Sawtell Chilli Festival has happened! A great day with a huge selection of chilli food and many thnaks go to the organisers and a special thanks to Deep Sea Moonlight pearls for the beautiful prizes donated for the hat parade.
The Sawtell Chilli Festival is known to delight people of all ages with its range of chilli-related foods and products, activities and entertainment. Whether you like it hot and spicy or milder, there will be a huge range of stalls, cafes and restaurants to cater to your tastes. This year, the Sawtell Chilli Festival will see a ‘back to basics’ focus on chilli and chilli cuisine. The biggest players in the Australian chilli industry will be coming to town, such as the Byron Bay Chilli Company, Seatonfire Chilli, Noosa Chilli Company, Redback Chilli’s just to name a few, bringing with them brand new chilli products. Some companies are even rushing to get new products ready to launch at the festival.
Australia’s leading chilli product manufacturers will join regional restaurateurs as the international diversity of chilli cuisine is put on show. The myriad of chilli products, some of which have even won international awards, is guaranteed to satisfy the expected 6,000 visitors, from the spicy foods novice through to the fussiest chilli connoisseur.
At the Festival we will have a range of street theatre and buskers, school cook off, a hat parade sponsored by Moonlight Pearls and of course the annual Chilli Eating Completion. But the drawcard will be our very own local talent the absolutely fabulous Nick Hardcastle who played Felicia when I saw Priscilla Queen of the Desert and was completely show stopping. The festival takes place between 10.30am and 4pm in First Avenue, Sawtell.
